JOB SUMMARY:
ABC12 in Flint, Michigan is looking for a Coordinating Producer to assist in the creation of fast-paced and engaging newscasts. The role requires planning and close collaboration with field crews, on-air talent, and the digital team, to ensure a cohesive news experience across all platforms, at all times of the day. The ideal candidate will be a creative professional who can work well under pressure, adapt quickly to breaking news, and is dedicated to consistently improving our delivery on each of our platforms.
You will collaborate closely with field crews, fellow producers, digital team, editors, and on-air talent to help deliver a cohesive, high-quality news experience across all platforms, including broadcast, streaming, and web. You must have the ability to act professionally and maintain control in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; be accustomed to changing gears on constant breaking news, updating news, and continued coverage for our viewers.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicating, coordinating, and executing creative vision with a team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
Write, re-write, edit, and post to the station's web, social, and other digital platforms.
Passion for production & storytelling, combined with an unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics and standards
Adapt to breaking news and developing stories.
Generate story ideas and collaborate with news staff on promotable story ideas.
Work/assist with planning of staffing and logistics to cover daily news and special projects.
Work with Reporters/Producers to produce compelling and creative coverage on-air and online.
Oversee field crews and help mentor/coach them daily.
Assist in making calls to news sources as needed, gaining appropriate and actionable information.
Coordinate severe weather and breaking news coverage.
Must maintain a working knowledge of current events, community issues, and an extensive list of local contacts.
Monitors police/fire scanners as well as news tips.
QUALIFICATIONS
Broadcast or newspaper experience of at least three years is strongly preferred. This is not an entry-level position.
Ability to communicate clearly in writing or orally with accuracy. Possess working knowledge of television technology.
Working knowledge of current events and community issues
Excellent communication skills, remaining calm under pressure
Demonstrate solid news judgment.
Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure and respond to late changes (be fluid).
Must possess exceptional organizational and writing skills
Knowledge of web-based publishing
Experience with ENPS a plus.
Must know how to edit video
Must be available to work holidays and shifts that include nights, weekends, and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news.
Must be willing to reside in the DMA
The hours, shifts, and responsibilities are flexible and are subject to change at the News Director’s discretion. Involvement in station initiatives and station events is necessary.
